Alan, J. Barth, 55, of East Providence formerly of Rehoboth, MA passed away Tuesday, February 13 surrounded by his loving family. He was the companion of Sherry Merck for six years.

Born in Honolulu, HI, he was the son of the late Wilber and Shirley (Bowerman) Barth. After graduating from Dighton Rehoboth High School in 1980, Alan joined the United States Navy in 1981 as a Sea Bee serving in several foreign countries. Upon receiving an honorable discharge in 1987, Alan became a correctional officer at the Adult Correctional Institution in Cranston where he was employed until his untimely passing. He earned a Brown Belt in Karate and worked as an interior and exterior house painter. His most prized possession and the love of his life was his beloved dog Drago.

Besides his companion, he leaves five siblings, James R. Barth of California; Richard Barth and his wife, Karen of Providence; Mary Souza and her husband, Antone Cordeira of Taunton; Wilber Barth, Jr. and his companion Patricia Rose of East Providence; David Barth and his wife Norma of Seekonk; along with several nephews and nieces and his family from the Pub.

Calling Hours will be Thursday from 4-6 PM in the Frank P. Trainor & Sons Funeral Home, 982 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of RI, 1086 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 will be appreciated. Inurnment in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery will be private.
