John Howard Gill, Jr.

John Howard Gill, Jr. 72, of Rumford, passed away peacefully at home on December 26, 2016. He was the son of Lillian (Burkhardt) Gill and the late John H. Gill, Sr. He was a graduate of East Providence High School and served his country as a US Marine from 1962-1966 where he was a member of the military police. Following his service in the Marines, he was employed as a welder at Electric Boat in Groton, CT for 41 years. A devoted son, brother, uncle and godfather, he enjoyed family gatherings where he acted as the official family videographer. He loved spending time with his nieces, nephews and, later on, his great nieces and nephews. He was a fan of the NY Giants, car racing and music of the fifties and sixties. In addition to his mother he is survived by three sisters, Maureen Duncan (James) of Southington, CT., Nancy Jennings (David) of Seekonk, MA and Debra McKeon (John) of Torrington, CT.; his nieces, Kellie Surveski and Erin Duffy of CT, Holly Crowe and Joy Cambra of MA, Kristen McKeon of AZ and his nephews, Gregg Duncan of MT and Michael McKeon of CT and several great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father and a nephew, Glenn Duncan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 3rd at 10am St. Margaret’s Church 1098 Pawtucket Ave. Rumford, RI. Burial with military honors will follow at Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery 661 Prospect St. Pawtucket, RI. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 245 Waterman St., Providence, RI 02906.
