Irene E. (Ford) Carrigan

Irene E. (Ford) Carrigan, 85, formerly of Ferris Avenue, Rumford, died peacefully on March 6, 2017. She was the wife of the late William E. Carrigan.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Joseph F. and Margaret (Duffy) Ford, she lived in Rumford since 1967.

Mrs. Carrigan was a switchboard operator and receptionist for the former Providence & Washington Insurance Co. for 15 years.

Irene was a communicant of St. Margaret Church. She was a member of the Rumford Junior Women’s Club and past President of the Avalon Jr. Women’s Club.

She is survived by her children, Kathleen M. Carrigan of Warwick, Patricia A. Maziarz of Pawtucket, Carolyn L. Gorman of Rumford, Maureen M. Couture of Warwick, Jean A. Lermer of Cumberland, Joyce A. Glynn of Pawtucket, John T. Carrigan of East Providence and Mary Prout of Bloomsburg, PA; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and a companion, James Thomas of East Providence. She was the mother of the late William P. Carrigan and sister of the late Joseph F. Ford, Raymond Ford, Mary R. Ford and Margaret Burkard.

Her funeral will be held on Friday March 10, 2017 from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret Church, Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday 4-7 p.m. Flowers are respectfully omitted.
