George Gennari, 94, veteran of World War II and past Executive Director of the East Providence Boys & Girls Club passed peacefully into his next life on February 28, 2017. He was the husband of Elaine (Collins) Gennari. Born in East Providence, he was a son of the late Adolph and Maria (Guidi) Gennari. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star for Valor, the European Theatre Medal- Europe, the American Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Victory Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Expert Infantry Badge. Following his tour of military duty, he joined the staff of the East Providence Boys & Girls Club (1947), influencing the lives of numerous youths as he progressed through the ranks to become Executive Director, a position he held for 24 years until his retirement in 1992. Besides his wife he leaves one daughter, Karen Bernier and her husband Mike, one son, Raymond Gennari and his wife Sunshine Menezes, two brothers, Dante “Danny” Gennari and Adolph “Jack” Gennari and his wife Maria. He was the brother of the late Mafalda Tacchella and Eldo Gennari. His funeral will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM from the Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Loreto Church, Waterman Avenue. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Calling hour Thursday 4-6.
